The New Baby
This was our second addition to the Hall family. We would like for you to meet Rooster Cogburn - the second Hall riding steer. Here, Rooster is 6 mths. old. These pictures were taken on his second day at his new home. Gayland worked hard to get him accustomed to the family...And, boy, was Mac jealous...and- after two and a half years - still is! We've learned from this mistake! We raised Mac alone when we really should have had another longhorn with him, so he wouldn't think he's the center of the universe!
The Boys
Gayland and Rooster worked hard together. In less than a month, Rooster learned to set up well and already knew several commands.
The whole family's loving longhorns!
We worked daily to get Rooster accustomed to people, kids, dogs, cars, and anything else that might pop up!
Two Months Already?
You can see how far Rooster had come after only two months in the family. These pictures were taken on his 2nd month anniversary! He and Gayland hit it off really well! Madison even tried out the driver's seat!
Buddies
Because of Rooster's calm nature, Tyler has gotten to be good buddies with him. It's a two-way street. Tyler, our grandson, gets to learn early on to handle longhorns, and Rooster got used to kids being around. They seem to have hit it off! Both of them make a Papaw pretty darned proud!
Growin' Like a Weed!
Here was Rooster is 9 mths. old where his horns had grown from 14" to 19 1/2" Gayland put in many hours and lots of steps!
Gettin' Ready to Show
Rooster was 9 1/2 mths. and getting ready to go to his first show. He was doing great in the pasture. We wondered how the ring was going to go!

How's Third Place for our First Show?
Rooster was shown for the first time at Glen Rose. Jake Whitfell did an excellent job, and we certainly appreciate his time and effort in the ring. Rooster received 3rd place in the Junior Steers division! But to top that, we met so many wonderful people!
Early Birthday Presents!
Rooster got a few early birthday presents - a ring in the ol' nose and a new blanket. Ok, he wasn't really excited about the blanket, and he pouted about the ring. Here he's 11 1/2 mths. old and his horns are 23 1/16th".
Birthday Boy!
This picture was taken on April 3rd - Rooster's 1st birthday! His horns were 23 5/8" long.
Thirteen Months and Counting
Rooster never really had a problem with the saddle, but now it's easy sailing. On his "13th" month birthday, he measured 25 3/8" from tip to tip and weighed around 725 pounds.

Baby Rooster is not a baby anymore! He's three years old, 15 hands, and 1850 pounds. Our little guy has grown up! His attitude is still as charming as ever. He and Mac are pictured here at Christmas at Ol' Fort Concho 2006. Rooster is a veteran parade steer, photo celebrity, and a participant in the West Texas Rehab Day Camp.
Four and a half years old, 2000 lbs. ...and still Daddy's Baby!!
