McLintock and Sherry
Mac was a first for us in more than one way! He is the first longhorn we've ever owned and the first riding steer we've ever tried to train...but we applied the ol' Hall philosophy - jump in head first and start paddling! We've made a lot of mistakes along the trail, but thanks to many longhorn association members, Mac has managed to survive and we have learned a lot!
The Patient Tree
While Mac was young, he learned to wait patiently while I drug him around from place to place. He still gets impatient if I stand over the fence too long chatting with the neighbors, but he's got more tolerance than the horses!
Our Afternoon Walks The First Year
Longhorns, Hugs, and Grandkids just go together!
"Could You Fluff My Tail?"
Mac loves his daily attention. The problem is he doesn't want anyone else to have any!
The Ride!
We began our rides with the lead rope still attached. Gayland has graciously walked us around and around the pasture. There aren't many husbands that would walk around in circles as much as he has! He says he just hopes we break him loose before our first parade! He didn't seem too fond of the idea of leading us through the streets dressed as a rodeo clown. Hmmm...
Just a Walkin' and Walkin' and Walkin'
We've made it! We're riding on our own. We've been taking it slowly through the pasture, the yard, and anywhere else we can find!
Tryin' Out the Bigger Boy!
It didn't take long before our grandson, Tyler, decided to try out the ride, too!
Everyone Helps out Around Here!
Madison does the ground work on Mac's belly.
Just Hangin' Around
Attention to Detail
Our longhorns definitely get their daily attention around here.

Mac has really made a great riding steer. He and Rooster are pictured here at Christmas at Ol' Fort Concho 2006. McLintock is a veteran parade steer, photo celebrity, and a participant in the West Texas Rehab Day Camp.
And, of course, still mama's baby!
